Well, Gagner is going to be a really good player, and he's still young, so he's still a keeper. I'm thinking more like Nillson,Stortini, Moreau or someone like that. Hey, if you can pick up a Nik Antropov, Shane Doan, or Steven Weiss, couldn't you find someone on the Canucks roster to unload?

For the sake of Argument RD, let's take your Oilers from this season. You and I both know that Sam Gagner is gonna be a really good player. This year he had a MAJOR sophomore slump. So say we had this dispersal draft this summer, what happens to Sam Gagner, Do they keep faith in him, or do the Oilers pick up a few really good players and Gagner gets thrown away!

No one wants to see a veteran player lose his job, or a young upstart not get a chance, but there needs to be some sort of sacrifice to make the league better. Every team has 3-4 "on the bubble" type of guys, and if you can replace them with a much better player, why wouldn't you? The idea is to have a higher level of play all around, and unfortunately you need to weed out the weakest in order to do that.

I see what you're sayin RD, but let's say we actually retract 4 of those 5 teams I mentioned and just relocate Phoenix back to Winnipeg. We have the dispersal draft, and youve got 92 guys going to 26 ither teams. Thats about 3.5 players extra per team. You're gonna lose younger players who are trying to make a name for themselves in the NHL or older players who are still having a decent end in the twilight of their career, forced to go down to the AHL, or not able to sign anywhere, because teams are limited to 23 players on the roster. I dont know If I wanna see that happen. I think in the case of the NHL, one you expand, you cant go back! At least not 4 teams at once! That would cause too much chaos!

Personally, I would like to see maybe the Coyotes head back to Winnipeg, but apart from that, I think there are too many teams in the league. They should just fold the other 4 or 5 teams and have a dispersal draft, instead of having them move. Let's get the league back to a more competitive level.
