Thiago Alves moving up to 185 is a bad idea

Despite the conflict of a submission being the result in UFC 117's Main Event. Former #1 Welterweight contender Thiago Alves is coming off a Unanimous decision loss to fellow rival Jon Fitch, Alves now on a 2-fight losing streak has to re-vamp his career it seems. UFC President Dana White is stating the claim that Alves is too big for 170 (welterweight )and should be fighting at 185 lbs (Middleweight).; which would mean a possible move up in weight class for the 26 year old Brazilian.

If Alves can pull out a yellow card against Dana White, comments to move up in weight can show his desire to re-climb the contender ladder at 170 as well as prove all the doubters wrong. Alves' camp has yet to announce where he might fight next next but rest be assured you can expect Alves to be sharper than ever and making weight either 170 or 185. After Dana's proclaim for Alves to move up weight classes Alves denies Dana's comments on his weight and has pleaded to remain fighting in the UFC at Welterweight. This situation seems a little too Drama filled and needs less attention at the moment. Fans have spoken and decided that Alves is in fact is too small (short) to fight at 185 and should be competting at 170 lbs where he has been majority of his career. Maybe Mike Dolce should acquire a new client in Alves to the Dolce Diet.

Whatever Alves decides to do lets consider the options/fights at 185 lbs for him. Fresh off a loss to Jon Fitch via Unanimous Decision by a ground and pound specialist, with Alves moving up a weight class he would run into grpplers bigger than Fitch such as: Chael Sonnen, Nate Marquadt, Yoshihiro Akiyama, and Damian Maia, as well as strikers like Patrick Cote, Alan Belcher, Michael Bisping, Vitor Belfort, and current Middleweight Champ Anderson Silva. He would have to face the much tougher and bigger fighters at a newly adjusted weight class which may take Alves sometime to get used to. In other words, Dana White maybe on a WAR path to teach Alves a lesson for not making weight for the Fitch weight and others (i.e Hughes) by not missing weight anymore. This might in fact be a waje up call.
