Free Agency Day Makes Me Sick
I've accepted that most professional sports have become all about instant gratification, but free agency day kind of makes me sick to my stomach. What ever happened to the Ray Bourques of the world? This guy played 21 seasons with Boston before going to the Avalanche to win a championship. Lebron James is 25 years old! He is the face of the Cav's, gets paid millions of dollars, and ohh too bad they didn't go all the way this year. Michael Jordon went his first 3 seasons of losing records, coupled with an injury that kept him out for 60 games one season. They were ousted out of the playoffs like 7 years in a row before Scottie Pippen and company came around to create what is now considered as one of the greatest dynasties in sports history. There was even a time when Jordon's teammates wouldn't pass to him, but he was a PRO, and had to deal with it! The Dany Heatley's of the sports world should consider it a priviledge to get paid large sums of money to play, and need to deal with the good and bad. Mario Lemieux started with the worst team in the NHL, HE was a pro. So guys like King James and Chris Bosh and Sheldon Souray can all do "what's right" for them and their families come July 1st, 8th, and beyond, but I won't be shedding a misty tear as I watch them accept their "earned championship" with another team as I did for guys like Ray Bourque and Dave Andreychuk. I'm looking forward to see what everyone else thinks about this topic. Thanks for reading!

Ok but I thought your point at first was FREE AGENCY....A free agent like LEBRON JAMES can dictate where he wants to go because of the power and talent he has, he's gonna drive up the contract offers until he's laughing his way to the bank with whatever team he wants because eventually they will all give him an astronomical offer.
Players under contract dictating where they want to go...well, that's also different if you're comparing players with and without NTC, or NMC. If they have one, well, ya they are gonna dictate where they want to go, and it's usually gonna be a team with some decent talent and a legit shot at going far...if they are without a NTC, and they still get their way, then that just means the GM is weak.

Thanks for the input guys, some good insight. It is the reality of today, and I don't blame guys who are stuck with a poorly managed team with no promising future wanting out, but I think that once they ask to be traded, they should not be able to dictate where they go.

Crosby will be a career Penguin! Ovechkin's signed a long ass contract so he's a career cap or I think he'd bolt from Washington! I know what you're sayin Dean, that there's more respect in staying with the team you started with and trying to help improve that team and eventually taking them to the promiseland, but the business is different today than it was...well even 10 years ago, when Mr. Bourque was still around. Not only is it all about winning, it's about the money and that's just the dog eat dog world we live in. A sad reality, maybe, but I honestly can't blame a player like Dany Heatley for wanting the hell outta Atlanta, to go to a more promising team like Ottawa and then to San Jose, due to internal problems. Certainly, King James, as he's known, has dragged ths out pretty far and he has a big ego, very cocky, and it's arrogant, he should be takin a page outta MJ's book, but maybe that just means to him, that he should sign in Chicago! :)
