5th pick of the NFL draft, Kansas City Chiefs Draft Safety Eric Berry - Great Move
With the 5th pick of the 2010 NFL draft, my beloved Chiefs took a huge chance on a safety and made me a very happy man. They chose Eric Berry, the all-world safety out of Tennesse. Berry has been hailed as the next Ed Reed, the next Troy Palomalu, a can't miss prospect who fell to the 5th spot only because of the fact that he is a safety (there is prevaling opinion that the safety is the lead valuable position in the defense scheme). But ney, in Berry, they draft not only a talented and powerful football player, they get a leader who can galvanize the defense from a bunch of over paid pawns running around with their heads cut off, to a solid defensive unit, utilizing all of their strenghts to work as a team. Not since....dare I say it.....Derrick Thomas, god rest his soul, have we seen someone who can act as the lightning rod. Great job Scott Pioli, my faith in you has been restored!! Now, with the 36th pick, we need to pick up an offensive tackle....
