Mattzilla’s 2010 NFL Mock Draft (1 Round Final Version)
1. St. Louis - Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma
This is all but set in stone. Bradford is the most accurate passer in the draft and cemented his number one overall status with a pro day in which he hit every moving target in site.
2. Detroit - Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
Widely considered the best player in the draft, Suh will provide the Lions something they haven’t had in recent memory – a dominant defensive tackle. This should tie in well with the recent additions of Kyle Vanden Bosche and Corey Williams.
3. Tampa Bay - Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma
Just about any other year this Sooner stalwart would be #1 DT on the board. Regardless, McCoy is a perfect fit for the Buccaneers defense and is a major upgrade over incumbents Chris Hovan and Ryan Sims.
4. Washington - Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State
The Redskins made a huge plunge in the offseason and picked up debatably one of the top 5 QB’s in the NFL in Donovan McNabb. Their next priority is to make sure that they protect their investment. Enter Mr. Okung – who emulates his game after one of the meanest OL’s in history: Conrad Dobler. Not too shabby if you ask me.
5. Kansas City - Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma
You can sure as hell believe that Scott Pioli wants Matt Cassel to succeed after ponying up astronomical figures for the USC bench-rider. The key is to keep Cassel upright. The best way to do so is taking the highest rated tackle on the board – Trent Williams.
6. Seattle - Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland
The sexy pick here would be to take the best player on the board – S Eric Berry. However, the Seahawks have much bigger holes to fill. The biggest of which is Offensive Tackle. Campbell seems like more of Pete Carroll kind of player than Brian Bulaga. That said, I wouldn’t be entirely shocked if Carroll decided to trade down in the first round and draft Charles Brown – a USC product.
7. Cleveland - Eric Berry, S, Tennessee
The last time the Cleveland franchise drafted a Safety this early it was Eric Turner – who ended up having a nice career. Eric Berry has superstar written all over him. This should give Browns fans something to be excited about for the upcoming season.
8. Oakland - Brian Bulaga, OT, Iowa
With Al Davis calling the shots, this can go oh so many ways. Bulaga is the safest pick here and can step in right away to either replace Mario Henderson or move over to RT to fill the void left by Cornell Green’s departure. I just don’t see Davis succumbing to the pressure and drafting QB Jimmy Clausen this early in the draft given his recent lack of success drafting a QB with all the right measurables so early.
9. Buffalo - CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson
I could be eating my words by the time Friday morning rolls around but I highly doubt that the Bills will be drafting QB Clausen nor settling for OT Anthony Davis – given his “character issuesâ€. CJ Spiller is the closest thing this draft has to Chris Johnson. Marshawn Lynch is all but gone leaving a not-so-young Fred Jackson as the lone proven ball carrier. Chan Gailey has openly been expressing his desire for a “scatbackâ€. Spiller is a homerun threat whenever he touches the ball.
10. Jacksonville - Joe Haden, CB, Florida
Despite Haden’s piss poor 40 time at the combine, he’s the best (in-game) player on the board at this point. I was originally going to plug DE Derrick Morgan into this slot but the addition of Aaron Kampman as well as a young and ready Derrick Harvey already on the roster makes it a questionable pick. Rashean Mathis could use another big-time playmaking CB to help him out.
11. Denver - Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State
No Brandon Marshall and no Tony Scheffler means Eddie Royal, Jabbar Gaffney and Brandon Stokely are Kyle Orton’s main targets this upcoming season…yikes! This pick is a risk given Dez Bryant’s eccentric personality, but he is far-and-away the best WR in this draft.
12. Miami - Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee
Jason Ferguson is 35 and certainly isn’t what he once was. Dan Williams is the best NT in the draft and is a Bill Parcells kind of player.
13. San Francisco - Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
Something tells me that the 49ers organization is willing to take another flyer on a talented QB from Notre Dame. The last one certainly worked out quite well. Alex Smith hasn’t really proven a thing yet.
14. Seattle - Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech
The Seahawks are licking their chops when they see the best DE in the draft waiting there for them. Patrick Kerney called it quits after a solid career; Morgan should start in his place right away.
15. New York Giants - Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama
The G-men could use some help at ILB and McClain is the consensus #1 at said position.
16. Tennessee - Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida
The loss of Kyle Vanden Bosche definitely hurts, but Pierre-Paul has the skill-set to be an absolute monster in the mould of Jevon Kearse.
17. San Francisco - Charles Brown, OT, USC
The Anthony Davis free fall continues. Charles Brown may not be as polished as Davis, but he’s got great upside, doesn’t have character concerns and can only be better than the incumbent, Tony Pashos.
18. Pittsburgh - Demaryius Thomas, WR, Georgia Tech
Hines Ward has defied the test of time and Mike Wallace had a very nice rookie season, but neither is a viable number one target at this point-in-time. Thomas can flat out ball and has been shooting up the draft charts as of late.
19. Atlanta - Brandon Graham, DE, Michigan
One of the biggest reasons why the Falcons didn’t make the playoffs last year was their inability to rush the QB. Although under-sized, Graham’s forte is sacking the QB. This may help Jamaal Anderson finally wake up and live up to his potential and high draft status.
20. Houston - Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State
No more Dunta Robinson means they need a suitable replacement if they’re serious about being a contender in the coming years. Wilson is widely regarded as the 2nd best CB in the draft and could start right away.
21. Cincinatti - Earl Thomas, S, Texas
Thomas is the BPA here and would help make an already talented young defense even more talented.
22. New England - Jerry Hughes, OLB, TCU
Save for Jerod Mayo, the Patriots do not field much youth when it comes to LB. With Junior Seau and Adalius Thomas out of the picture, Hughes could team up with Mayo to bring some much needed playmaking ability to the fold.
23. Green Bay - Mike Iupati, G/T, Idaho
The Packers Offensive Line was offensive for most of the season last year. Iupati is talented, nasty and versatile. Look for him to start right away.
24. Philadelphia - Taylor Mays, S, USC
Mays could very well be the best athlete in the draft. Mike Mamula was also a great athlete…Eagles fans hope that this doesn’t turn out the same way.
25. Baltimore - Jared Odrick, DE, Penn State
Losing Justin Bannan and Dwan Edwards leaves a rather gaping whole at the DE position. Odrick fits well in a 3-4 defense.
26. Arizona - Sean Weatherspoon, ILB, Missouri
Karlos Dansby is in Miami and the Cardinals really don’t have a suitable replace. Weatherspoon is both a great value pick and fills an immediate need.
27. Dallas - Maurkice Pouncey, G, Florida
Pouncey could potentially give the Cowboys the most dominant Guard duo (along with Leonard Davis) in the NFL.
28. Buffalo - Tim Tebow, QB, Florida
*via trade w/San Diego – Marshawn Lynch & 3rd round pick
Surprise!!! The Bills need a franchise QB and, maybe more importantly, someone to inject some life into this lifeless franchise. Marshawn Lynch is a malcontent and a 3rd round pick isn’t a sure thing – so this isn’t a huge risk.
29. New York Jets - Linval Joseph, NT, East Carolina
Kris Jenkins is a man-child, but he’s uber injury prone. Joseph could be a huge sleeper – literally and figuratively.
30. Minnesota - Ryan Mathews, RB, Fresno State
Chester Taylor is gone and Adrian Peterson has been sidelined with injuries all too often. The Vikings can afford to take a flyer on this speed demon from Fresno to spell Peterson.
31. Indianapolis - Rodger Saffold, OT, Indiana
Protecting Peyton Manning is their key to success. Had they been better in the trenches, they could’ve been picking 32nd in this draft.
32. New Orleans - Colt McCoy, QB, Texas
Many consider McCoy to be similar to Drew Brees – accurate, smart and a leader. Regardless, the Saints could use some talent behind Brees should he suffer an injury as well as look towards the future – even if it’s a little pre-mature.

nice job on the mock draft though, I got Berry right in mine, but got Spiller wrong. I can't believe Oakland did what they did, and yeah Chargers made a head scratching move. And who is this guy the Jaguars selected???

I hit on Spiller, but there were a lot of surprises last night. Can't believe that San Diego would trade up to get Ryan Matthews. Megatron summed it up very nicely in his blog.

This actually looks decent. I like seeing Tebow in the first round but I'm not sure if Marshawn Lynch is worth a late first. I think anything from a mid second to first round down would be good value for the Bills. Their fans though would definitely be sad to see him leave.
