Having the Pro Bowl a week before the Superbowl is a bad idea.

For

Against

When there are a lot of starters expected to play in the Superbowl, that are in the Pro Bowl, this is asking for trouble.

Ya but what's more important? Superbowl or Pro Bowl? Obviously the Superbowl. I would bet that if the Pro Bowl were after the Superbowl, just as many people would watch, if not more because of the chance of more Superbowl players playing in it. Players dont wanna play in a meaningless game a week before the biggest game of their lives. Like I said before, middle of the season ALL STAR GAME or post-Superbowl!

RD i understand where your coming from but too many people lost interest in the NFL after the Superbowl. I understand missing out on Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne is a big deal but you have to think in Superbowls prior to this the losing team usually ends up not sending as many players anyway due to Superbowl "injuries".

SportstalkRA hit exactly on point. More people will watch the Pro Bowl this year because of when it is and because its caused so much controversy. The NFL also helps itself by staying that much more relevant in its off week. I as an NFL fan will not watch an exhibition game after the season has been decided. I may be dissatisfied that all of them aren't there but in the end its more relevant and the NFL is a business driven by tv numbers and dollar signs. From the players perspective though I gotta say its unfair. And if RD had hit on that a little more I feel like I would have sided with him.

I completely agree with RD on this one! Look at how many players have dropped out because they are playing in the Super Bowl! This is ridiculous. The game should display the best players and now it's not. The game should be AFTER the Super Bowl, or it should be an All-Star game in the middle of the season...LIKE EVERY OTHER SPORT!

1)How many players do you stand to lose from the pro-bowl due to players playing in the Super Bowl. Not that many. Probably 6 out of 86. 2) And when players don't play, it's not like they're going to go to "second-stringers" like Jordan Palmer at QB or Jarrett Bush at CB. There will still be top notch players that'll end up playing in the pro-bowl. Frankly I think it's disrespectful to say that if Peyton Manning doesn't start at QB that whoever does in his play is a "second-stringer" (except if Tony Romo were to). 3) For the remaining 80 players that aren't conflicted by a spot in the Super Bowl, their season is over and they are still out there to have fun. 4) lenrosen- having the Pro-Bowl before the Super Bowl helps the season to reach that absolute crescendo in that now the Super Bowl is the end-all for that season.

The ProBowl should be a game in which the best players are on display. The problem is the two week hiatus from the end of the preliminary playoff rounds until the SuperBowl is played. The NFL should consider reducing this period to one week and then play the ProBowl in the same city a week later. So reverse the order and allow the excitement of the playoffs to reach a crescendo in the week after the finalists are chosen. Frankly the two-week hiatus has never made sense and now putting an all star game in the middle means the all star player of the finalists are not going to be featured on the field. That is a shame.
