you know I didn't really even know Joe Calzaghe until this battle, and then I did some research. See, because of you two, I learned something about boxing.

There's nothing wrong with going out in his prime. Boxing is that one sport where you slip once, you could end up with some serious health issues. Calzaghe deserves to go out on his on own accord. Nice one boys, I thought Calzaghe was a great fighter, and I hope he enjoys his life outside of boxing. Nice argument Cazz, great rebuttal J.

Calzaghe just wanted to leave on a high note. But if he really wanted to leave with a legacy he would have went out fighting the best of the best. Guys like Arthur Abraham, Andre Ward, Lucian Bute, and Andre Dirrell. All the best of the best have lost but we remember them. Ali, Tyson, Sugar Ray Robinson, etc. All of those guys have lost but they've fought the best of the best, even to their detriment sometimes, but we still consider them the best. I don't know if Calzaghe will be amongst them due to all the competition in his division when he left. At that point, it seems you care more about not losing rather than being the best and being an all time great. We as fans don't look down upon the greats because of their losses, because they've fought the best of the best.

I gotta go with jhabeeb1. Calzaghe is probably still the best fighter at his weight but he's pushing 40, beaten the who's who of his division, and (IMO) has nothing left to prove. Also his last two performances against an old Hopkins and an old Jones Jr. were less then impressive(again IMO). I see no reason for Calzaghe to push the envolope and go past his time like so many fighters do. It would be best if he just left gracefully as top dog. But I'll wait for the rebuttal to give my vote.
