i dont care who you are. if you dont fight the best. you cannot be considered the best. racking up wins against fighters like bret rogers does nothing for you legacy imo. realistically the last top fighters he fought were crop cop and big nog. nearly 5 years ago. i like fedor but that CANNOT be ignored

Well we all know the answer to your question Stevanchez - it's because in cutting down, a naturally bigger and stronger man will now gain that advantage while maintaining the speed. Why does one train with weight? It's overload the muscles so that they will be conditioned at that weight/power. Same as a heavyweight cutting to a lower weight class. It does give them that advantage, no one in their right mind would ever bulk on weight to challenge a heavyweight if they don't have to. Great points!

But honestly that wasn't really my point. My point was, that those fighters(all of whom could easily fight at HW) cut to stay out of the HW division because they realize that superior technique and conditioning isn't enough when you're fighting the 240+lb monsters that lurk in the HW division. Fedor can because he is a rare blend of technique, conditioning, power, and strength. Now Silva has great skill, but I don't think anyone could honestly say that, if he fought at HW, he would have the power to stand and trade with a 270+lb Rogers or have the strength to fight off a 290lb Hunt on the ground. Yeah that 30 year old AA needs to retire and that 28 year old Rogers is falling apart. Seriously, come on. The only fighters you can LEGITIMATELY argue weren’t in their prime are Sylvia and Coleman(2nd fight). None of the other fighters were “old” and all of them were either coming off big wins or impressive winning streaks(with the exception of Choi, who has the “freak” appeal).

If by "thick" you mean chubby, which lets all face it hes got some fat on him, then yes I agree with. But if you mean broad then I have to disagree. I've seen the Mousasi/Fedor exhibition match and Mousasi was much "thicker" then Fedor. Also, Forrest and Rampage are huge, they're both ripped and physically built like linebackers and Silva was as big, if not bigger, then Forrest in their fight. So I have to disagree.

none of them are as big as fedor... he is very broad and thick for his hieght. a couple of them might have an inch in height in him but there no where near as thick as him. fedor is a heavyweight. i think he benefits a bit due to the lack of technique and conditioning in that division. its not his fault though... thats his weight class. but its obvious the lightheavyweight division is alot stronger. i mean the last two fighters he fought in their prime was 2005. if floyd mayweather and manny pacquiao had that sort of history alot of people would be questioning them. but we cant question the great fedor can we lol. what hes done is amazing... i just think we need to look at it objectively. hes undefeated... but not against top competition since 2005.

If the heavyweight division is easier to win in then why do guys cut weight to fight in the smaller divisions? Guys like Griffin, Belfort, Mousasi, Machida, Babalu, Rampage, and even Silva himself are all as big or even bigger then Fedor physically and they all cut anywhere from 20-50lbs to stay out of the heavyweight division. Nothing against them, they need to go where they'll be successful but it does beg the question. Why? If their technique, conditioning, and abilities are all far superior to that of the heavyweights, then why not fight them? I'm just curious. Who knows, maybe they like the challenge.

I don't think any of us can question Fedor's conditioning and cardio, he's never lost due to lack of conditioning, so for us to debate his cardio is reaching too far. I think NOT ENOUGH credit is given to the greatest fighter ever, simply because he won't go to the UFC and Dana White spews idiotic statements about the man. He's beaten Nog in his prime, Cro Cop in his prime and just about everyone else in their prime. Stevanchez put forth some great points. At the end of the day, the pound for pound argument is just some fantasy. The winner has to go to the heavyweight. You put Silva in the ring against Fedor, and we all know who is going to win.

also i would argue that in alot of ways fedor is helped by being a heavyweight rather than hindered as the cardio and technique at that level is no where near as consistant in the other divisions. too much credit given.

even if fedor does have LOOPING punches. his boxing is good. however, lets be realistic anderson silvas boxing is the best in mma, if you dispute that then theres no getting through lol. fedor is a great fighter, it amazes me that people can ignore the fact he ducked out of the ufc for their love of fedor. i dont care who you are. if you dont fight the best. you cannot be considered the best. racking up wins against fighters like bret rogers does nothing for you legacy imo. realistically the last top fighters he fought were crop cop and big nog. nearly 5 years ago. i like fedor but that CANNOT be ignored. ahem. LOOPING LOL.
