cazz nailed this one despite his dodgy haircut... hk seemed to destroy his own arguement by saying cain needed to fight dos santos.

Really don't get why everyone wants to see Dos Santos vs. Velasquez next I think it's a great fight but, you lose a contender in that fight. If Mir loses the marketability factor of Mir/Lesnar 3 match-up you can throw out the window. I think you give Velasquez the shot now then have the winner of him and Lesnar fight the winner of Carwin/Mir plain and simple and then if Dos Santos beats Gonzaga you give him one more fight then the title shot

does anyone else find it slightly ammusing that the top related battle to this one is HK arguing for the fact that cain velasquez is over-rated? i found it ironic :P x

Luckily, Carwin isn't getting a title shot yet...he's getting an interim title shot (that's a #1 contenders bout). Carwin was already supposed to get a shot at Lesnar but it was scrapped due to injury and the Mir/Lesnar 3 matchup's marketability exceeds all ideas of one guy being more "deserving". That's a false narrative in combat sports. It's about what match-ups make sense business wise. With Cain improving and getting more exposure by the fight, it only makes an inevitable title shot more appealing (and sellable) to the fans if he wins another fight against Dos Santos. Either winner (of Carwin/Mir) vs. Lesnar is more marketable fight than Lesnar vs. Cain. Plus, Cain will be a better fighter, more ready for a title shot, and more sellable as a challenger with one more fight.

To me there's no guarantee that the winner of Carwin/Mir comes out of there fight injury free, and honestly as big of a fan as I am of Shane Carwin's the guy is only 3-0 in the UFC and has 1 quality win and that's against Gonzaga. To me Velasquez has way more of claim to a title shot to him with having quality wins over Kongo, Rothwell, and now a brutal KO win over Nogueira, also I think even Dos Santos has more of a claim to a title shot than Carwin. Plus you make Lesnar vs. Velasquez for July, then you got Mir/Carwin this month and you have the winner's fight each other no need to make Velasquez take another fight and have to wait till October or November for a title shot. I think it's dumb people are voting before both A.J., and Rob's rebuttal's are up so I'll save my vote for the rebuttal's.

It basically comes down to this: the winner of Mir/Carwin is getting the next shot because their fight is for an interim belt. That's it. Cain gets better in every fight, how would it hurt him to have one more in between now and his title shot (which would probably not be until October or November).
